Some do it on foot, others on horseback. Then there are those who prefer to travel the roads of Santiago de Compostela by bicycle. For these people, we have designed this trip on the Le Puy route, one of the four historic ways that the pilgrims of St. James have been following for centuries. It is now considered a great classic! Quiet country roads will allow us to complete the same stages as the hikers, as we cycle from Gothic churches to Roman monasteries and from rustic little towns to pretty villages. From our starting point in Puy-en-Velay, in Auvergne, to our final destination in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, in the Basque Country, our entire route is a real delight in every respect, including the food. Among the cuisines we will sample are those of the Lot, Gers, Tarn-et-Garonne regions, famous for treats such as truffles, duck, foie gras, Armagnac and the fine rustic wines of Cahors. The goals of this pilgrimage remain as varied as ever, but whether in search of pleasure, an athletic challenge, history or self-discovery, all the cyclists ultimately find their own individual paths.
